After Grad school, roommates Catherine and Gwen took divergent paths in life. Catherine followed her professional ambition and became a rock star academic. Gwen, abandoned her studies for marriage and stay at home motherhood. Reunited in their 40’s both face a kind of “buyer’s remorse” about their life choices and wonder if it’s possible to start anew. Adding passionate fuel to the fire, Gwen’s husband Don, once Catherine’s boyfriend, faces regrets of his own. Figuring it’s now or never, the trio engage in a reckless game of romantic “musical chairs” the consequences of which are both tantalizing and deeply poignant. With scorching insight and Gionfriddo’s distinctive wit, Rapture, Blister, Burn weaves an intimate tale of contemporary gender politics that illuminates our common struggle to achieve that ever-elusive goal called Happiness.
